At the time the romance talk between Holmes, 38, and Foxx, 49, began to surface, the actress was divorced from Cruise for about a year, following a six year marriage. The two share daughter Suri, now 11, whom Cruise, reportedly, has not had much contact with since the split. Cruise and Holmes tied the knot in a lavish Scientology ceremony at the Odescalchi Castle in Italy.
Scientology was often cited as the main reason for the demise of the very public Cruise/Holmes union, as the actress was growing more and more fearful of the Church’s influence on her daughter and could not handle the increasing involvement of the its members in their lives. Reportedly, church members moved into the couple’s Los Angeles home so they could cater to Cruise’s every whim.
In September 2016, RadarOnline reported that a quickie divorce settlement between Holmes and Cruise included a clause that prohibited the actress from publically dating anyone until five years have passed following the dissolution of the marriage.
Coincidentally or not, as that period has expired a couple of months ago, it appears as though the coast – in this case, the lush beaches in Malibu – is finally clear for Holmes and Foxx to put their romance on display.
