When Harry met (and quickly put a ring on!) Meghan
To say that everything about Meghan Markle glows, is an understatement.
From flawless skin and glossy locks, to the most coveted and copied fashion sense to something that’s not so easily attainable – that special twinkle in her eye, most notable when she looks adoringly at her man.
But let’s backtrack a bit.
Perhaps the only teeny smudge in her seemingly perfect bio – and this is only because she is to marry a Prince, otherwise, it’s quite normal and expected that she’s had a past – is that Markle has been married once before. After a seven-year relationship, she married film producer Trevor Engelson in 2011, and then, quietly divorced him in 2013. Shhhhh.
More to the point, let’s examine a timeline of the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle head-over-heals union.
They were set up on a blind date by a mutual friend (jury’s still out on this matchmaking genius’ identity!) in July 2016. They hit it off immediately and quickly began dating. When Harry was asked when he knew Meghan was the one, he quickly replied, “the very first time we met.” A couple of dates later, the Prince invited Markle to a trip to Botswana – and when we say trip, we mean camping – which she (hello!!??!!) swiftly accepted, catapulting their whirlwind love affair to the next level, best described, again, by the Prince himself: “I managed to persuade her to come and join me in Botswana and we camped out with each other under the stars. Then we were really by ourselves, which was crucial to me to make sure that we had a chance to get to know each other.”
Get to know each other they did and somehow, pretty unbelievably so, managed to date quietly for several months. The news of the Prince dating the American actress only leaked in late October 2016 and statements like “besotted” and “happier than he’s ever been” were peppered throughout the reports.
During their first sit-down together as an engaged couple, Markle reflected on this period as “a good five, six months almost with just privacy, which was amazing.”
Throughout the rest of 2016 and the first half of 2017, as their long-distance relationship blossomed (Markle was based in Toronto, filming Suits), the actress was also slowly weaving herself into the fabric of the Royal fam, meeting each important member, getting their seals of approval, while taking occasional trips with her boyfriend and posting sparse, but poignant messages on her Instagram.
The month of October 2017 was a true game-changer for the couple: Markle accompanied her Prince to an official royal appearance for the first time at the Invictus Games opening ceremony and opened up big time about her Royal romance to Vanity Fair.
“We’re a couple. We’re in love. I’m sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time,” the magazine’s cover girl said. “This is for us. It’s part of what makes it so special, that’s just ours. But we’re happy. Personally, I love a great love story.”
And we’re up to November 27th 2017, the day the world learned that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are 100% engaged to be married and about 1000% in Love.
Kensington Palace confirmed that the wedding is to take place on May 19th 2018.
Who’s with us on hardly being able to wait ’till then??? The guest list, the DRESS, the looks on their faces?!
Fairytale to be continued.
But hey, isn’t it kind of incredible already?
